Dear Hana Mission friends and family members,

Mark and I went to Northshore Community Church yesterday, and they fed us, inspired us, and encouraged us. Thank you, pastor John, and pastor Tae, for your partnership and prayers. We look forward to having your team work with us in August.

Also, I would like to thank NJ Dae Han Church for their services at the thrift store. In spite of their age limit, they moved the mountains of clothes in one day. Rich and I were so impressed with their teamwork and we are deeply grateful for their sacrifice. The only regret I have is the poor work environment they endured in the store basement. Thank you so much, Rev. Baek and the members of the church.

I would like to ask you to pray for this special project. From next Tuesday (July 5th), people with substance addiction will work together with the Hana brothers. They will work four hours per day and receive $13/hour. The purpose of this project is to first keep them off the street and then discontinue shoplifting if they were involved previously. By earning the income, I pray that people will first regain their dignity and self-respect, and then, ultimately, become born-again Christians.

In addition to problems with drug addiction, now I have more pressure to keep them on our payroll with the limited income we have. To keep people safe from potential crimes and overdose deaths, we must keep them in our prayers and continue to demonstrate our Father's limitless love for them.

Please share this project with your friends and family so they can pray with us and support us with donations of clothes, shoes, bags, etc.

I have been driving almost all the streets in Bergen, Passaic, Essex, and Hudson counties in search of a vacant store. I have one or two potential sites for a third thrift store. However, it is not determined and the search is still continuing. Please pray for a new store and for the supply lines.

The Sunday dinner program is still looking for a church to take a week each month. Bethany UMC has committed to serving the people every 2nd week of the month. Paster Helen is recruiting her friends to take the last week of the month to serve a meal to the community. If you are interested in serving the people on Sunday, please let me know. Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers and for helping us in any way you can from wherever you are. When you have a compassionate heart, God will open the door for you.

May the Lord keep you safe in this unstable time and turn his face towards you.

안녕하세요

어제는 마크와 제가 뉴욕 Oyster Bay 에 있는 교회를 방문하였습니다.

4년 전에도 다녀왔지만 참 신기한 교회 입니다. 백인, 흑인, 아시안, 남미, 유럽인 등 다양한 사람들이 가족 같이 함께 주님을 섬기는 교회입니다. 어떻게 이런 교회가 가능한지 case study 를 하고 싶은 교회입니다.

위의 사진처럼 하나선교회 단기 선교를 준비하는 모임이었고 성도들이 준비한 음식을 먹고 하나선교회를 소개하는 순서를 진행 하였습니다. 선교회를 후원하시고 위해서 행사를 준비하신 죤 목사님과 태 목사님께 감사 드립니다.

지난 6월 21일 남부 뉴저지에 위치한 대한교회 (백행원 목사)에서 성도님 10분 과 목사님께서 먼지와 땀을 닦아 내며 벨빌 가게에서 봉사해 주셨습니다. 산처럼 쌓여 있던 옷들이 하루만에 정리되고 이 날 이후 몇일동안 가게 매상이 평균 수입을 웃도는 결과를 보게 되었습니다.

수고해 주신 백행원 목사님과 성도 분들께 감사드립니다.

한가지 아쉬웠던 것은 일하시는 분들께 최상의 자리를 제공하지 못한 것입니다.

좁은 자리와 먼지 그리고 높은 습도 등 어려운 상황에서 묵묵히 수고하여 주신 여러분께 다시 한번 감사드립니다.

오는 화요일부터 선교회에서 또 다른 프로그램을 진행합니다.

이제까지는 마약과 술을 단절하고자 하는 사람을 도왔지만, 화요일부터 실행되는 프로그램은 이런 의지가 없더라도 일단 일거리를 주는 것입니다.

노숙자가 마약을 구입하는 경로는 크게 두가지 입니다. 길에서 동정의 손길을 찾거나 상점에서 물품을 훔치는 방법입니다. 선교회는 이분들께 일거리를 제공하여 첫째, 자신의 존엄성을 되찾는 첫 걸음을 딛게 하고 둘째, 더 나아가 하나님의 사랑을 발견하는 통로를 마련하고자 하는 것입니다.

뜻은 좋아도 일거리를 주는 이상 이에 따른 지출이 있습니다. 5명이 하루에 4시간 그리고 시간당 $13불이면 일주 지출이 $1,300불 입니다. 마약중독을 치료하는 일만 해도 벅찬데 여기에다 이들에게 지불해야하는 임금까지 해결해야 되는 이중고를 지었습니다.

그래서 여러분께 도움을 요청합니다.

이제는 기도와 함께 여러분의 옷장과 신발장 그리고 주방을 열어 주시기 바랍니다.

안 입는 옷, 안 쓰는 그릇, 못 신는 신발 등을 선교회에 기부해 주십시요.

하나선교회는 더 많은 사람들에게 일거리를 제공하여 하나님과 의 만남을 주선하는 장을 마련할 것입니다.

지난 몇 주 동안 북부 뉴저지를 골목 마다 돌아다니며 선교회 제 3 스토어 자리를 찾고 다녔습니다.

7월 한달 동안 여러분께 특별히 부탁드립니다. 이번 달에 좋은 가게 자리를 찾아 8월에 계약 하도록 기도해 주시기 바랍니다.

주일 저녁 식사를 기다리는 분들이 많이 있습니다.

펜데믹 이후 지난 달에 처음 베다니 교회에서 저녁 식사를 제공하였고 앞으로도 매월 둘째주에 식사를 제공하기로 하였습니다. 헬렌 전도사님께서 주위 분들을 모아 매달 마지막 주에 식사를 대접하고자 준비 중입니다.

이외에 첫째 주와 셋째 주에 저녁을 주민들과 나누시기 원하는 분은 저에게 연락해 주시기 바랍니다.
